The sun, our most faithful companion on this voyage, slowly rises from the sea, as if with a delicate, almost shy timidity. It patiently awaits our readiness to begin the journey, only to then accompany us on a path of discovery through the wonders of Salento.
As we pedal towards the bauxite quarry, the morning's early light show pink and yellow shades before us. This magical place, where light dances with colours, suddenly unveils itself. A wild vegetation soon reveals the ochre yellow and deep red hues of the quarry's walls, cradling the emerald waters of a small lake. It's a natural spectacle, a masterpiece that can be admired from various vantage points, all accessible by foot or bicycle.
As the sun climbs higher, its intensity growing with each passing moment, we venture out to seek its shimmering reflections upon the water. Riding vintage cars, we follow the graceful curves of the coastline.
Meadows adorned with newly blossomed flowers transition seamlessly into the boundless and intense blue of the sea. We drive, feeling the wind play through our hair and the warmth caress our skin.
And when we finally turn off the engines, we are ready to satiate our senses with delectable cuisine, accompanied by good company, amidst olive groves and the blinding white of the Salento midday sun.
Finally, as the sun begins its slow descent towards the horizon, we observe it with a sense of pride from horseback, along rows of ancient olive trees, or from the shores of Torre Lapillo’s beach. From there, we make our way to the Masseria, where, sated with emotions, we await the evening’s arrival. The sun bids us farewell as we gather around the table, leaving the task of gracefully concluding a day filled with light to the flickering sparks of a bonfire.
